Farm Stand
A Mancos Middle School Elective
The Farm Stand began in the fall semester of 2024 and was taught for a 2nd year in the fall of 2025. It is a 9 week class taught every day during the 1st quarter of the school year at the Mancos Middle School. It is a mixed age (6th-8th grade) class taught by Sorrell Redford, our Executive Director and her husband, Matt Redford (Middle School Math teacher). The curriculum was designed by a team of eight educators in Montezuma county with the goal of teaching students how to create a Farm Stand business from start to finish.

Student - Led
During the first week of class, students learn what a Farm Stand is, research local famers markets, increase their knowledge and excitement builds!

Then, it is up to them! Students decide what they want to sell, they make a marketing plan, design posters, interview local businesses, harvest crops, price the produce, design the physical Farm stand and assign themselves roles.
During the 3rd week of the course students host their first real market, selling to the public.

After the 1st market, they discuss what worked and what can be improved and they start preparing for the 2nd market.
